Eight new trainees at Hämmerling Group

Paderborn, 1.8. 2017. At an atmospheric event at the headquarters in Paderborn, the Hämmerling Group, an internationally active group of companies with 500 employees in the fields of tyre wholesale and retail, logistics, IT and marketing, today welcomed eight new apprentices in the company and introduced them to working life. Of the eight young people who are starting their professional career in the group of companies, three are undergoing an apprenticeship as professional truck drivers, three are becoming freight forwarding clerks and one young man has decided to become a systems integration IT specialist or an industrial clerk. The training courses are carried out in Paderborn and Olpe.

With the eight new trainees,”says Olaf Hoppe, Managing Director of the company,” the Hämmerling Group once again demonstrates its great responsibility for the next generation, but above all for Germany as a business location. Hoppe added that it is particularly important in times when digitization and e-commerce are creating major professional and social challenges that employers take on their tasks and offer young people sound and efficient training. Hoppe:”We also know what we have in our trainees and appreciate their importance for new ideas and approaches.

Large number of applications

What is also positive for HR managers is the large number of applications received by the Hämmerling Group for the current training course. While other companies are struggling to find applicants for apprenticeships and vacancies, the number of applicants for apprenticeships in 2017 was still well above the number of positions on offer. We feel,”says Hoppe,” that we are perceived positively as a company and that we are granted a high level of competence, but above all reliability. The reason for this good employer image is also the efforts made by the management for the employees in the various divisions of the company.

Staff support

The company’s range of products and services includes, for example, solutions for company pension plans, group accident insurance and employee discounts. In addition, there are regular advanced training courses, team excursions and an open working atmosphere in a medium-sized company that also attaches great importance to sustainability, such as generating its own electricity. The Hämmerling Group Logistic GmbH, which operates throughout Europe, also receives rewards for safe and ecological driving. Personal support for the drivers, but above all for their families, is also a top priority:”Wherever possible, we offer our own apartments for rent, assist in finding a kindergarten or school and also advise on all administrative matters. In addition, we accompany our employees in dealing with the authorities if required,”says Christina Hämmerling, Managing Director of the division. In order to overcome language problems, the department has its own staff member who speaks Polish and other Eastern European languages. Extensive further training with our own trainers is also an integral part of employee support.

High acquisition rate

The high takeover rate also speaks for the company. Thus, not only did all trainees pass their examinations in the last year of training, but they were also taken on. Since the summer, two truck drivers, two forwarding and logistics service clerks and a warehouse specialist in Döbeln have now joined the team of the constantly growing company with locations all over Europe.
