“We live green logistics”

Sustainability and the careful use of resources are not only theoretical concepts for us, but also actively pursued corporate policy and are therefore firmly integrated into the company’s goals. With “green logistics”, however, we are not only fulfilling our responsibility for the environment, but also combining maximum benefit for you, our customers.

The following measures are designed to achieve our green logistics goals:

Energy-efficient vehicles

As an environmentally and sustainability-oriented company, we take great care to use only new and highly efficient vehicles. Our trucks are replaced every 3 years with new, more modern models. This ensures that we always achieve the lowest fuel consumption and the best possible reduction of pollutant emissions. Thanks to this measure, we are always equipped with the most modern security systems.

Our concept also includes the general use of ATHOS truck tyres from Hämmerling – The Tyre Company, which optimize rolling resistance and reduce fuel consumption. With the HG2152eco – Athos ecoTrailer, for example, reductions of 0.5 litres per 100 kilometres are possible and verified in real operation.

Supplemented by regular driver training courses and rewards for consciously ecological driving, we thus achieve a combined average consumption of our fleet, which improves every year. By regularly improving these values, we reduce average CO² emissions by 3% per annum – and the trend is still rising.

Ecologically minded drivers

When it comes to green logistics, we place particular emphasis on the responsibility of our drivers and employees. In order to be able to guarantee full customer satisfaction in the future, we train our truck drivers and forwarding agents in our own premises and warehouses. In addition to good basic training, it is also important to achieve good driving performance that is above all resource-saving. These are continuously trained in theory and practice by our own driver trainings by our own drivers. In addition, the bonus model provides appropriate incentives.

All fuel consumption values of our low-emission vehicle fleet are strictly monitored and the individual drivers are informed on the basis of monthly evaluations. Each of our drivers can also track their current driving behaviour at any time via a portable device in the vehicle. Various parameters such as rpm above limit, speed above limit, number of strong braking operations determine an overall evaluation and the driver is shown on the display. For each parameter, additional information is also specified.

Via a telematics portal, the current positions of the vehicles, drivers’ driving and rest times, distances to the loading/unloading points and other information can also be viewed at any time. This enables optimal route planning and utilization of the vehicles as well as a reduction in empty mileage. This system is thus a major step towards ecological transport management and a contribution to the reduction of pollution.

Photovoltaics

Part of our responsibility for the environment and resource conservation is the consistent use of photovoltaics. This has been happening since 2012. Our two plants, in Paderborn and Großweitzschen, are fed directly into the medium-voltage network of the grid operators (E. on and MITNETZ) via transformer stations and are permanently monitored and evaluated by professional monitoring devices. The plant in Großweitzschen has a capacity of approx. 280 kwp, the plant in Paderborn will have a total capacity of approx. 1250 kwp. Together, the two plants thus produce approx. 1,300,000 kwh or 1,300 mwh of electricity per year and feed this into the power grid – enough to supply almost 1,000 households. The photovoltaic system generates a total of approx. 1,000 t CO² saved.
